I'm watching a rally DVD I ordered from the Netherlands. There's a stage on the TankS Rally EDE where the course goes through a gas station, at night. And when I say through I mean under the canopy and within a foot of the pumps. See for yourself:

I see nothing wrong here - Dutch person. :P
But seriously I think it's alright. They pass around the outside of the station, not between any pumps (see 3:45). The pumps are on the inside of the turn and it looks like they've place some large box in the approaching side of the pumps to protect them and the cars should anything happen.

and it looks like a fairly slow part of the track, though that may have just been fear on the drivers part.

I probably would have thought nothing of it if not for that Nissan that did the huge tank slapper coming out of the very next corner
